RITES SLATED TODAY FOR CARLTON LYNCH Memphian Dies In Hospital After Shooting Self Reportedly despondent because of an illness, Carlton B. Lynch of 2734 Burns took his own life by shooting himself in the head with a pistol about 11 yesterday morning in the front yard of his home. He was 73. Services will be held at 4:30 this afternoon at National Funeral Home with the Rev. J. W. Bass officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill. Mrs. Era Lynch said she went to the front door to call her husband to lunch and saw him shoot himself in the left temple with a .38 caliber pistol. He died three hours later at Baptist Hospital where he was taken in a Jack Ruby ambulance. Relatives told police Mr. Lynch had been despondent because of illness. Born in De Lay, Miss., Mr. Lynch was a telegrapher for the Illinois Central Railroad at Water Valley, Miss., and a deputy sheriff at Oxford, Miss., before he retired and moved to Memphis 13 years ago. He was a member of Lamar Heights Baptist Church and a Mason. He also leaves two sons, Dr. Marshall Lynch and Dr. Henry Lynch, both of Marks, Miss.; a daughter, Mrs. R. E.
